Wildly Successful AR Ads for Best Buy

August 6th, 2009

Out of 43 million copies of their circular, 6500 people interacted with their AR print campaign. Wow.

Who wouldn’t jump on a goofy bandwagon to get those kinds of numbers? Engagement rates of 0.00015% are a sure sign this Flash-based AR thing is going to take off. Or am I reading that wrong?

  • I'm not down on AR. I'm down on dumb uses of AR and bandwagon jumping agencies. The Ikea thing was ok. The USPS thing was good. The GE project was good because the novelty was new and it seems to fit the GE brand.

Tell me you don't know 50 agency folks saying, "How can we use that? Who can we sell that to?"

That's what I'm down on... Apparently the Best Buy circular readers agree ;)

I get that you're down on AR, but I think it has a chance to be useful. Ikea did something fairly utilitarian with it...
